Top Air Conditioning Company, Fujitsu, Wins the 2010 Japan’s Minister of the Environment Award for Prevention of Global Warming

We are of course referring to Fujitsu and we are pleased to announce that Fujitsu’s efforts have recently been recognised.

On December 1, 2010 in Tokyo, Fujitsu was awarded the 2010 Minister of the Environment Award for Prevention of Global Warming. Besides being a leading ICT-based business solutions provider, Fujitsu is also responsible for the internationally successful Fujitsu Air Conditioning products which we are offering to all our clients within Sydney and the Central Coast.

The Award

The Minister of the Environment Award for Prevention of Global Warming was given to Fujitsu for their modal shift program for their products and parts shipments that has led to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions in Japan. Modal shift means a change in the company’s mode of product and parts transport; from trucks and other shipment methods that cause high carbon dioxide emissions to methods that result in lower emissions, e.g. rail or boat.

The award is part of Japan’s Ministry of the Environment’s attempt to reduce the effect of global warming and has been granted annually in December since 1998, the month designated as Global Warming Prevention Month by the Ministry. It recognises organisations and individuals that have made significant achievements to combat global warming.

Japan and Global Warming

As a populous industrialised nation, Japan has been forced to deal with tough environmental issues. The country has been known for the following:

Fifth leading emitter of greenhouse gases (contributes 4.28% to overall global carbon dioxide emissions)
Leading importer of exhaustible energy resources
One of the largest consumers of fossil fuels

Due to these facts, Japan came up with the so-called Cool Earth 50. This is a plan to reduce global carbon dioxide emissions by 50% by 2050. The Cool Earth Partnership also states that Japan will financially assist developing countries to help reduce emissions.

The Kyoto Protocol is another international agreement aimed at fighting global warming that was initially adopted in Kyoto, Japan in 1997. As of July 2010, 191 states have signed and ratified the protocol, including Australia.
